From a Living Room to a Church

Speaker: Cy and Chris Rangel, church members (not Pastor Ryan Rench); the video does not mark which of them speaks each part

We are Cy and Chris Rangel, and we have been members here thirty-eight years. As a matter of fact, I remember our first meeting when we moved here. We looked for a Baptist church, and in those days we still had our phone books; I think Chris found it in the Yellow Pages. Our first meeting was at the pastor’s house, when he was living on the other side of Temecula. When we moved here in 1988, the population of Murrieta was 8,000, and Temecula was not much more, so I was not surprised we would be meeting at their house, because there were not churches on every corner back in the day. When we went to his house, it felt like home. I know a lot of people have a lot of close family. We do not. We are out here by ourselves, and this is actually our first family.

Debt-Free for the Third Time

The sooner we get it paid off, the sooner we can start using the money for the ministry instead of paying off a mortgage. This is the third time we will be debt-free, and I am really excited about it. It was fun to see the first one, when we could build the sanctuary, and then, when we were debt-free again, we could do the expansion and put in the new building, which enables us to do a lot more in the ministry here, with all the Sunday school classes we have. It has been really exciting, and I am really excited to see what is going to happen within the next year. I know God is going to do it. It is amazing how the Lord has worked, from the pastor’s house over the years to what it is today. We participated not only financially but also in putting up the two-by-fours and doing the drywall, participating in every part of the growth of the church. And I am really excited to participate in the debt-free effort up here on the board, to see what He is going to do. By faith, step out. It does not have to be the big sticker on the board, and it does not even have to be the little one. If by faith you can give even a little bit, the Lord is going to bless that. It is something we are going to participate in, and we are looking forward to seeing how the money is going to be used to build up the ministry of the church.
