//We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (2 Peter 1:19–21)//
You hear your mom calling you.
Do you:
[[Run to the other room and hide?]]
[[Go to her?]]You run away and hide in a closet, but she hears you and sees you just as the closet doors close.
Uh oh! You're in big trouble now! Your mom wasn't playing games, and you should have gone to her.
Now, pretend your friend says, "Do you want to go play?"
Do you say:
[[Sure!]] and go play,
or
[[NO!"]] and run out the door? That's GOOD!
If you had run away, that would have been bad. If she calls you and you ignore her, that would have been rude.
Now, pretend your friend says, "Do you want to go play?"
Do you say:
[[Sure!]] and go play,
or
[[NO!"]] and run out the door? You go outside to play with your friend.
[[Friends]]Well, that was rude! As you are running away, you stub your pinky toe on the sliding glass door. You cry in pain as you drop to the ground, holding your foot.
Maybe you should not have been so rude!
[[Friends]]Friends talk to each other, right? They don’t run away and hide.
God is the best friend ever. He’s never bad or rude. He never runs away or hides in a closet when someone is talking to him.
He’s nice! He’s loving! He’s kind! He wants to talk to you.
Remember yesterday? The Christmas story started all the way back in . . . eternity. Then God created the whole world just by speaking. He’s powerful and eternal.
Do you think,
[[Not me.]] “God’s got other people to care about. Big, important people. He is too busy to listen to me.”
Or: [[God can do it!]] That’s not true! You are important to God, and he wants to talk with you.
[[But how?]] How can God talk with people? If people think God is too busy, they need to think again!
Psalm 139 is a whole Psalm about how BIG God is and how SMART he is. These verses say you can't even count how many thoughts he has about YOU!
//"How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand. (Psalm 139:17–18)//
God thinks about you and wants to talk with you.
[[But how?]] How can God talk with people? Back in Bible days, God talked with Adam. He talked with Abraham and Moses and the apostles, too. Jesus spoke with people.
But can you hear God’s voice? No. Can you see Jesus right now? No.
Did you know that you have something better than hearing his actual voice?
You have the Bible.
God is not hiding from you. He is not rude. He wants you to know him, so he gave you his Word, the Bible. When you read the words in the Bible, you are actually hearing God’s voice!
God gave people the best story ever written, and it started like this: //Once upon a non-time, there is God.// Christmas is a story about a baby who was born to die. Every Bible story is like a puzzle piece . . .
There I go again, getting ahead of myself! Playing with puzzles will have to wait until tomorrow.
